Accessibility Statement

This statement was last updated on August 4, 2025.

Autistic Elle Blog is committed to making our little corner of the internet welcoming and usable for everyone, including readers with disabilities.

That commitment is rooted in both basic decency and the law: the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA) (C.R.S. 24-34-601), and Colorado House Bill 21-1110, which aligns state-run websites with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards.

While HB 21-1110 technically governs state and local government sites, we choose to hold ourselves to the same WCAG 2.1 AA yardstick so no one is left out. Denying equal enjoyment of a place of public accommodation—yes, blogs count—is also prohibited under CADA.

Our Accessibility Goals
We aim for WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance across pages, posts, and downloadable resources. In plain English, that means:

  • Content works with screen readers, voice-command software, and keyboard-only navigation.

  • Text and background colors meet or exceed contrast ratios.

  • Headings, links, and form fields follow logical, semantic order.

  • Images include descriptive alt text; decorative images are marked to be skipped.

  • Captions or transcripts accompany video and audio.

  • PDFs and other documents are built with proper tags, reading order, and fillable form fields.

Ongoing Measures
To hit (and maintain) those goals, we:

  • Design access-first. New templates are checked with automated tools and manual keyboard testing before publication.

  • Audit quarterly. We run a mix of automated scans and human spot-checks every three months, fixing priority issues within 30 days.

  • Train contributors. Guest writers and designers get a one-page “accessibility quick-start” before they submit work.

  • Budget for improvements. A slice of affiliate revenue is earmarked each year for external audits and remediation software.

  • Plan for emergencies. If a critical barrier is found (e.g., captcha blocking keyboard users), we publish an accessible alternative version within 48 hours.

Known Limitations
Despite our best efforts, some posts published before July 2024 contain legacy PDFs that may not yet meet full tagging requirements. We’re converting these files on a rolling basis. If you need a specific document in an accessible format ASAP, please let us know and we’ll move it to the top of the queue.

Continuous Improvement
Digital accessibility is an evolving practice—so is this statement. We’ll update it whenever major changes occur or new Colorado requirements take effect (the next legal milestone is July 1, 2025, when HB 21-1110 enforcement ramps up).

Thank you for helping us build a genuinely inclusive space for neurodivergent and queer voices. Your feedback makes the site better for everyone.
